since its inception, shifted s avian imprint has gone from being a murderous, straight-laced techno imprint to what has now become a source for some of the best and most multi-faceted industrial music from the european quarters. we re not sure of verge s true identity, it could either be one of the label s existing artists, the mysterious shifted himself, or even an artist like blawan riding incognito (don t quote us on that, though!) solitary and crest-fallen, this magnetic collection of tunes feed off one another with utter ease and simplicity. they re not merely a selection of sound experiments but rather a unitary cloud of sonics which leave the listener with a powerful mental image. the feeling of dusk, the water dropping off the leaves, the cold breeze of autumn. this is a blinding foray into the darkest corners of contemporary industrial experimentation.

nice price deal !!! andrea doria is such a maniac in the best possible way for sure, when its about creating soundscapes, noisy filters and funky percussion breaks. with tracks like >arsenico< or >exit<, he stopped beeing nice and presents the dirrrrty side of italian sound made in bologna. distortion, bitreduction and noise are the key elements accompanied by stomping grooves that can t be resisted. not less placed in the range of loud and proud sound comes >summertime< with beautiful harmonics, paired along its deep, subtle bassline ready to blast every afterparty.

one of the rarest funk 45s in existence and the rarest 45 on ellis taylor s forte label flipped with a previously unreleased acetate (has a little bit of background noise but what you gonna do when there is only one copy in the world, we did out best to make it sound good and it does). both tracks are stone cold deepfunk killers. super black is from the tapes and sounds amazing (better than the original) so go destroy a club with this.

originally released in 1978 on greg charmichaels red greg records, ‘lady bug’ and -love bug- are probably bumblebee unlimited s most recognizable hits. now repressed on the get on down label ... with an undeniable groove, signature keys and arrangements by patrick adams in addition to the comically sped-up vocals, lady bug is considered by many to be one of the most important underground tracks of the disco era. as with the original -lady bug- 12- single, the john morales and frank trimarco -sunshine sound- mix takes the a-side of the rca release. a true disco version in every sense of the word, this almost 10 minute mix brings out the latin percussions to the front making it a true dance floor classic and establishing john morales as one of the best remixers in the industry. the b-side belongs to one of new york city s hottest djs at the time: larry levan. despite being a very early remix by the legendary paradise garage dj, the talent was evident and his understanding of a club mix in wide display. it’s no wonder larry levan would go to become one of the most respected and revered remixers of his generation.

the sadly departed jaki liebezeit was the kind of drummer whose influence will be continually recognised over the decades to come. best known for his work in can, there are also many more sides to this singular sticksman, and emotional rescue has chosen to shine a light on his post-can period living in stollwerck. on the a side of this 7inch curio is the sound of phantom band with linear johnson & the protons. rush rush has a spiky new wave bent to it, but still liebezeit s drumming stands out. the b side drums off chaos need little explanation its the sound of one of the all-time drumming greats letting rip in a ferocious blast of percussive abandon.

the man known as dj nature holds a long and illustrious list of releases that spans all the way back to the early 90s, when, as nature boy, the bristol born dj and producer was carving out sample heavy house music for labels like ruff disco records and the underworld affiliated tomato label. his relatively modern re-incarnation, as dj nature, has seen singles and two albums come correct on revered labels like golf channel recordings and jazzy sport. following on from futureboogies landmark 50th release, dj nature drops a heavyweight four track ep on the bristol label, each track promising and delivering summertime vibes in abundance. born lifted, with its deft guitar licks and soulful vocal chops over lazy, hazy beats, is a great example of the nature aesthetics that make his tracks so very popular across the house fraternity. my life picks up the pace, deploying granite hard snares and cosmic chords with dusted vocal samples. on the flip, what it isnt packs some jazz chops with its sampled pianos and saxophone riffs over a discordant beat that swings with the best of them, whilst ep closer loving u more again serves up some delicious summertime grooves with the perfect marriage of deep, funky bass and seductive samples.

dj tennis is amazing, and the fact that he was willing to do not one but two remixes for our simple symmetry release, is more than amazing. dj tennis needs no introductions, beside the point that he is one of the best djs around and has one of the coolest labels, life and death, he is a gifted producer that transformed the two tracks of the original release into monsters, one, plane goes east, is a disco winner, that just bangs with its percussive attitude, and the other, voodoo your ex is an amazing emotional journey that elevates the original to new heights, a vinyl to have and to hold.

manchester original sameed comes through on gamm with two tasty noodle nuggets based on his food experiences from vietnam where he currently resides. his simple yet effective approach is best described as sample-friendly underground dance music with influences of disco, soul and jazz. on his gamm debut the first noodle dish comes with a heavy disco and jazz-funk feel (bun) that together with some gritty vocals gives us a peak time jam to die for. for desert, sameed delivers chao which is way darker and chops up some deep jazz samples with some 4/4 rhythms. again, simple but oh so effective

artefact - a smooth groover that has all the markings of a great producer. it’s a smooth groove machine, percussive and acidic in equal measure.
drag you inside a hole - is percussive again, with his hall mark signature groove, it’s infectious as it is long, a great booming techno number.
no merci - a peak time affair, booming and dark, think aliens, it’s the title for a reason, it stomps and delivers.
shelter - a breaks outing, subtle and melodic. a perfect finishing or opening track to a set, and one of our favourites on this release. it’s as magic as it is prophetic, simplistic beauty at it’s best.

segun bucknor fell in love with american soul music as a student at new york’s columbia university. otis redding, wilson pickett, sam cooke and ray charles hadn’t made much of a splash in africa at the time and when bucknor returned to nigeria in 1968, he was determined to bring the sound to a wider audience.
the result was brand of afro-soul that in turn became a proto-type of afrobeat. with his bands, the assembly and the revolution, he released a few politically charged tracks, but even with his energetic dance trio, the sweet things, turning up the heat, bucknor couldn’t compete with fela kuti.

in 2017, the finnish jazz scene seems to bubble with talent. one of the most prominent players in this mix is by definition, trumpeter jukka eskola. after over a decade of adventures in different spaces of jazz – from the dance floor burn of the five corners quintet to the raw expressive modes of mikko innanen’s small big band, jimi tenor’s cosmic jazz and his own prime cti styled solo recordings – eskola takes things back to bare basics. and as usual, when it’s done right, it’s the best thing out there.

with the third release on manhigh, new altitudes are achieved by recruiting one of techno’s rising stars. best known for his work on dekmantel and ghostly international, since 2012 charles duff has attracted increasing attention for his personal and unique take on techno. originally from san francisco but now based in berlin, following his shift in locale his sound has moved on towards a more european sensibility, a mode in full display on his deep mind ep for manhigh.

making his long awaited return to salt mines, hymns produces a debut 12” flecked with restrained breakbeats, off-kilter rhythms and glistening pads. opener ‘water acid’ is an eerie amalgamation of aquatic electro and tense emotion, built for a fractured dancefloor deep in the arctic ring. a2 ‘searching for the real’ provides a brief moment of introspection, before b-side leader ‘heinz harald frentzen’ crashes down and amplifies the intensity with sharp breaks and rapid, stark percussion. closing the release, title track ‘waves of nothing’ showcases hymns at his best, utilising lonely synths and equally mechanical and organic percussion to create a sentimental, vulnerable climax.

seasoned memory athletes will no doubt recall the turbo’s past affiliation with the former soviet union (proxy, tiga tigayevich khristorozhdestvensky), and recent geopolitical developments have prompted the label to once again hedge its bets. our a&r team spent countless hours sifting through layer after layer of russian underground music, a shocking amount of which turned out to be fake soundcloud accounts from producers based in florida. in fact, our best intelligence suggests that dimitri veimar may be the only person making music in russia today. for the 30 minutes a day he is not trading in politically moderate twitter-bot futures, veimar produces dark, raw-dog electro. he has already released music with omnidisc and renate, so it makes little sense to us why we have to communicate with him via a mole in the canadian embassy in moscow, which is further complicated by the fact that the mole is also an aspiring dj/producer whom we have to keep happy at all costs. you have no idea how much has been sacrificed in order to shield you from the realpolitik of international dance music.

after 18 12- singles and eps, cgi has finally found a record suited for its first full-length lp release, hurt plaza from atlanta s own pamela_ and her sons. pamela_ is the solo music project of alessandra hoshor, an atlanta-based multimedia artist, and 1/2 of evil dance project big ded. their microtonal compositions build up from slow perceptual movements into heavy dance sets full of deconstructed vocals. pamela_ is microtonal, cerebral dance music. fragmented, off-kilter anxiety techno with an emphasis on texture, pattern, and rhythm. familiar palettes are rearranged and presented in a form completely alien, opening new pathways to what is possible within the realm of electronic composition without ever underestimating the power of suggestion…effectively like looking into the eyes of your best friend for the first time agai

after almost two decades, dan pius album self education (moto 003) finally gets the vinyl treatment it deserves: the best tracks extracted from dat tapes, pressed on wax and renamed to living in fear for cartulis music s fourth release. even though the original and incredibly exclusive cd was heard and appreciated in the years around its release in 1999 from djs such as jeff mills and carl craig, it was virtually impossible to own (only 30 copies were made, ever). despite its rarity and status, cartulis choses this masterpiece for one principal reason: the music. an exhibition of an innovative era, of heavy duty machinery (roland juno 60, roland juno 106, roland tr-909 and emu vintage keys, just to name a few) and of fine craftsmanship (using his own samples and playing the keys himself), the album opens your mind and ears to interconnecting styles of ambient atmospheres, electronic-instrumental hip hop, and signature dance-floor killers self education and living in fear. not only for fans of dan piu and his subsequent labels (moto music, deepartsounds, no acting vibes) but for any music aficionado that appreciates a deeply cult classic.

mother recordings don t let up on the release schedule pressure as they look to returning label artists mat.joe for a new two tracker. this berlin based duo are one of the most talked about duos on the circuit at the moment with releases on toolroom, hot creations, as well as mother in the last 6 months. they also received a best newcomer nomination in the recent dj awards for ibiza and have also had two number 1 beatport tech house hits in 2016. they are known for really cooking up fresh club sounds each and every time they release, and this new blow your mind ep is no different.
